You'd think the party would have learned its lesson with Duke Cunningham and Jack Abramoff, but apparently not. And there's apparently no shortage of pretty young women willing to get friendly with lawmakers for lobbyist salaries that typically start around $300,000 a year and can run as high as a million a year for those who really "get results."

Makes sense. Someone with high moral standards probably wouldn't cheat on their wives. Further, someone looking to trade sex for political influence probably wouldn't be attracted to someone with high moral standards. GOOD POINT!

I think it would be hard to argue that the Charlie Rangal story is being "suppressed" and that the media has been focusing on this sexy lobbyist story. The Rangal story has been front page stuff for going on two years now. I haven't seen any MSM coverage of this lobbyist story. But maybe you're right, republicans are just poor victims of bad press and the media never goes after Democrats.
No, it is just that when an Eliot Spitzer is caught hiring hookers, he has to resign because he is a Democrat. Republicans are above that, so they just stay on no matter what they have done.
Rangel says he wants a public trial, not some accommodation where he gets a slap on the wrist but the charges are not refuted. This is not the behavior of a consciously guilty person, and while that raises another question about the potential of narcissism, those who exhibit this behavior are all GOP and have this C Street theology of King David being above these minor sins.
The hyperbole about Barney Frank is either just hypocrisy or hypocrisy plus homophobia. Even at its worst, a gay hook-up place makes a lot of sense in a homophobic culture. It ain't exactly the same as running a hetero brothel or hooker service. The really disgusting part about the GOP and sex is the hypocrisy of their policies.

It doesnt make me wonder at all because I know that people are drawn to stories about hypocrisy. Like when a republican runs on being all about "christian family values" and gets caught dipping his wick in anyone BUT his wife, people want to know about it. Just like if a republican docked his yacht in another state to evade paying taxes on it, no one would bat an eye. But when John Kerry does it, it's news. Public figures are held to the standards they hold themselves to. This, I believe, is why people are never surprised that republicans can't run government. But all people, INCLUDING REPUBLICANS, have much higher standards for Democratic politicians.
